Mental Health Care

You do not have to be in crisis to deserve help.

If you are not feeling like yourself, that is worth taking seriously. We do not set a threshold you have to cross before we pay attention.

Mental health support at MyFamilyGP starts with the assumption that you are the expert on how you feel — and that if you are not feeling like yourself, that is worth taking seriously. We do not set a threshold you have to cross before we pay attention.

General practice is often the first and most important port of call for mental health concerns. Our doctors are trained to assess what is going on, have honest conversations about what is driving it, and help you understand what support looks like — whether that is medication, therapy, lifestyle change, or all three at once.

What we help with.

How we approach it.

We will not just hand you a script and a pamphlet. A mental health consultation at MyFamilyGP is a proper conversation — about what is happening, what has happened before, what you have already tried, and what actually matters to you. From there, we build a plan that is proportionate and honest: what medication might help, who to see for therapy, what lifestyle factors are worth addressing, and how we follow up.

We also know when to refer. Our network of affirming, skilled psychologists, psychiatrists, and therapists in Cape Town is something we draw on regularly — and we stay in the loop so your care is coordinated, not fragmented.

A note for LGBTQIA+ patients.

Mental health and identity are often intertwined in ways that not every doctor knows how to navigate. At MyFamilyGP, we do. We understand the specific pressures — family rejection, discrimination, the experience of being misunderstood by systems meant to help — and we take them seriously in our clinical assessment and support.
