Focused, expertise-led care for older adults, with the time to coordinate properly with patients, families, and specialists.
Caring for an older person well is one of the more demanding things a GP can do. The picture is usually complex — multiple conditions, multiple medications, the interplay between physical and cognitive health, and the needs of the family trying to help. Dr Orit Laskov has been providing geriatric care in Sea Point since 2014, and has a particular and growing focus in this area. She has taken over complex patient management from Dr Leon Geffen, and is one of the Resident Doctors at Highlands House, an aged care facility in Cape Town, alongside her work at MyFamilyGP.
Dr Mumtaz Abbas, with her background in palliative care, provides complementary depth for patients and families navigating end-of-life care, serious illness, or the need for practical and emotional support alongside medical management.
Dr Laskov is skilled at administering cognitive testing using validated tools such as the MOCA (Montreal Cognitive Assessment). She offers dedicated appointments for cognition — a longer slot specifically for the assessment, review, and family conversation around cognitive change in older adults. Please tell us at booking if you would like a cognition-focused appointment.
For patients who cannot come to the practice — whether due to frailty, mobility limitations, or acute illness — we offer house calls at the doctor's discretion and with 24+ hours notice. See our House Calls page for details.
